BASHEM FIRE RELIEF FUND PANCAKE FEED
SATURDAY, February 17th
Louisville High School Cafeteria
7am - 11 am

As most of you know, on January 22nd, Ken and Diane Bashem's house burnt down and Ken is critically injured due to a propane gas explosion. Ken is in St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Lincoln, NE with burns over 80% of his body. As of now we're hopeful but they're still saying it's a 50/50 chance so we need everyone's prayers.
At this time we are organizing a Contribution Drop Day to collect items for Ken and Diane. Right now we are only asking for clothes donations for Diane. Due to Ken's burns we won't know what he'll feel comfortable wearing and it will be a long healing process. The following are her sizes:
Pants 12-14
Shirts/Sweatshirts/Coats - Large/X-Large
Shoes - 9 or 9 1/2
We are also looking to collect any household items for all rooms of the house, small kitchen appliances, kitchen utensils, towels, curtains, bedding, silverware, pots/pans, washer/dryer and anything else you can think of to help them restart as everything was a total loss. We already have a kitchen table/chairs, a loveseat, a double bed/box springs, 2 end tables.
Please bring these items to Louisville on Saturday, February 3rd, across from the Methodist Church by the railroad tracks. There will be vehicles there to load up everything to take to storage. Or if you cannot bring the items yourself, you can call me at home at 234-2663 or Theresa Kline of the Louisville Jaycees 234-6355 and we can arrange for a pick up or alternate drop site.
For those of you coming from Omaha, you take Highway 50 South for 10 miles. Turn left at the Texaco Station in Louisville. Go straight up Main Street 4 blocks until you see Copple's Chevrolet, turn left there. Go across the tracks and we're right there on your right side. It's just a big open parking lot. Pull up and we'll unload whatever wares you have to donate.
Also, there will be a Fundraiser Pancake Feed held at the Louisville High School Cafeteria on February 17th from 7a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the "Super Shooters" contest in the school gym. Also, you can make monetary donations to Home State Bank in Louisville. The mailing address there is:

If anyone has any questions/suggestions, please contact me. This is a very tragic time for the Bashem family so let's do all we can to take the stress out of their recovery and help them as much as we can. Please keep them in your prayers.

As everybody has already heard, there was a fire in the house at the very end of Depot Street, on Jan 22 around 6 p.m. The fire was caused by an exploding propane tank.
We've got some update of this information from the friend of fire victim family Kerri Cosson.
Ken Bashem is in St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Lincoln with over 80% of his body burned. His wife, Diane, suffered a minor burn on the hand. There were no children involved.
Kerri Cosson says "Thank you" to the Louisville Firefighters and especially Les Hlavac, Mike Keyes, Jerry McClun, and Jack Faubion. "When some ambulance personnel wouldn't keep my sister, her boyfriend Scott and I informed on Ken's condition when they returned to the fire, these guys took the time and compassion to update us as best they could and then took us into the house so we could look around and get what valuables we could out that same night. They are a great bunch of guys that know how to do their job and don't mess around. I just want them and everyone else to know we appreciate them very much."
"Also, would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Rose from Louisville Liquors. Yesterday while we were cleaning out the house, we took some laundry we thought we might be able to salvage down to the laundry mat. Mrs. Rose was in there and offered to wash them for us for no charge and she took care of everything for us. That meant a great deal. Even these little things the businesses can do mean a lot."
The Louisville Area Jaycees and Home State Bank have opened a "Bashem Fire Relief Fund" for donations and the Jaycees are organizing clothing items donations and fundraising activities.
Dear Louisville citizens, please help the victims of this fire, although it is not Christmas, there is always right time for compassion and generous help to the members of our community in such conditions (it turns out Bashem family does not even have insurance). We are not a big city where people hardly know each other. We are a small Nebraska community that cares about it's neighbors and is willing to help!
More information about Jaycees activities will be sent in the newsletter and posted on this web site.
