BUILD Events Committee Update
Plans are on target for "Air Your Art in Louisville."
The BUILD events committee recently visited area art shows to attract
additional artists for the art fair in the park.
There will be live entertainment throughout the day in the city park as well.
The city parade will be held at 2:00 p.m.
The banner project has
been delayed due to time constrictions, but we are looking forward to
the "unveiling" of the banners at next year's event.
The events committee is
looking into transportation ideas between the various locations where
special events are being held; such as Louisville Care Community's
Health Fair, 5th St. Studio's ARTflea Market, the Art Gallery's "Thrown
and Blown" and Feather's Garden Party.
Louisville will be the place to be on May 17th for "Air Your Art in Louisville!!"

Nuclear Testing
Artsy Epicenter
I remember when Melody and Liz opened their doors June 1996, and the era of the Louisville Art Chicks officially began. There were some seriously raised eyebrows in town.
The idea that a chicky - womens lunch dress-up party boutique complete with red feathered boas, bright festive hats, off-key singing, dancing, colorful chalk drawings on the sidewalk, and all things whimsy would locate in a dusty little river town like Louisville was just crackers.
The good ol boys on Main Street, .. we all gave it about 3 weeks.
Shows how bright I am!
Little did I know, that succesful women from all around the area, Omaha, Lincoln, Council Bluffs, even Des Moines would soon make the Art Chicks in Louisville a must see destination and the reputation would grow, and grow. The concept had never been done before, and now there are Art Chicks Copy businesses across the country. Look what they started! You have to be impressed.
The "Ladies who Lunch" arrived in their Mercedes, BMW's, Lexus and Porshe and had a great time escaping their routine in their Meca to Louisville.
Since Art Chicks opened in June of '96 we have seen: Louisville Art Gallery - Coop-de-Ville - Feathers - Chick-er-Doodles - Studio - Envy Salon and now 5thStreet Studio. All seeking to be where that great artsy feeling is; in Louisville.
When some thing is obviously working,
it just makes sense to build on it.
The idea is to build on the momentum of the last 10 years and focus attention on Louisville as a fun artsy, weekend destination. We are right between Omaha and Lincoln, and close to great venues like Louisville Lakes, Platte River and Mahoney parks.
Our Weekend Guests happily contribute to the Sales Tax coffers, which in turn allow us to build needed infrastructure, streets, water systems, parks and all things that keep our City strong and vital.
It just seems to make a lot of sense!
But, is it possible to imagine Rural Louisville
as the New Nucleus of the local Art Scene?
May 17th begins the testing!
