Please: Thank our Sponsors!!

We want to do the very best job for you! We work hard each week to deliver a real local Louisville Newsletter. All Louisville, all the time. We have plans to make this more valuable, relevant and local in the year to come.

The single most important and helpful thing you can do,

is to thank HSB and the rest of our wonderful sponsors. They need to know that you appreciate all the trouble and resources.

Simply mentioning, "Hey, I saw your ad on the Louisville Website!!"

really works miracles, and it really feels good when a Sponsor is made to feel appreciated.

Thanks!

A Very Memorable Christmas
Snow Bound in Louisville

We will remember the Christmas Blizzard of 2009 for years!

I don't think anybody was caught unprepared. They were predicting it for almost a week. It was really a rather perfectly timed blizzard from the stand point of Christmas and staying home. Unless you were a retailer trying to make your nut.

I really can't remember a more peaceful, restful Christmas.

Something about being forcibly detained by 10+ inches of snow and driving winds delivers a profound sense of calm.

There is also something wonderful about the shared experience. It is so comforting knowing that the whole midwest is getting clobbered! You don't feel like a slacker taking some time off and just watching it snow.

Its a little like that feeling you had when you were a kid, hearing that school closed and that the test you were fearing was cancelled.

Because of the snow!

Kinda makes you feel like building a snow man, or making some snow angels. ....

naw.. I think it is time to take a nap.

(Special thanks to our most excellent neighbor, Bill Hay and his faithful Truck-Zilla for digging us out of the snow drifts!)
-----------------------
Hey, I bought a new gizmo that I wanted to tell you about.

We had  talked about a day when your TV would be connected to the Internet and most of the movies, and programs you watched would come from somewhere other than cable, or local TV stations. We are not there yet, but we have taken a major step in that direction.

I got a Roku gizmo www.Roku.com for $90 and it is basically a preview of a feature that I am sure they will offer on most TV's a year or two from now. The gizmo likes to live in a WiFi environment, and it connects directly to the component video inputs on your HDTV. You click the remote, it opens up the NetFlix website (Amazon and many others coming soon) you browse the movies and "click" they are playing on your TV! From the Internet directly to your TV. Hey, I asked the folks in the Electronics Dept at Target if such a thing were possible. They confered amonst themselves, brought their department manager over into the discussion and concluded it was not. So Louisville again is ahead of the cool technology curve.
SIDEBAR: This was not to pick on Target, these guys are extremely knowedable and helpful, and I depend on them a lot. I was just needing an unbiased current technology barometer

Ok, forward thinking: One of the micro hot spots in technology the last 20 months or so is little companies that create software "apps" for the IPhone - 100's of overnight sensations created by small clever companies that identified a new way of doing things for a brand new kind of customer.

I think that this Roku device is the beginning of another such "New Way of Doing Things" and there will eventually be a raft of small clever companies creating "Instant Overnight TV Networks" that don't require the FCC or millions of dollars, just some good old fashioned American innovation. So, Louisville here is an early tip.

Ok, Time for another cookie and a nap.
