SARPY COUNTY TO JOIN THE FIGHT AGAINST ALZHEIMER’S IN

ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION WALK TO END ALZHEIMER’S®

Participants to Raise Critically Needed Funds for

Alzheimer’s Care, Support and Research

July 30, 2019 – The Alzheimer’s Association® is inviting Sarpy County residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s. The Walk will take place on Sunday, August 25, 2019 at Prairie Queen Recreation Area in Papillion.

Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's participants will complete a walk and will learn about Alzheimer's disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical studies enrollment and support programs and services from the Alzheimer’s Association. Walk participants will also join in a meaningful tribute ceremony to honor those affected by Alzheimer's disease.Sarpy County resident Kati Caniglia of Team Memere’s Miracles will walk in memory of her grandmother who passed away from the disease in January 2019. She shares, “On January 2, my beloved grandmother did leave this earth as a result of this disease; however, her team Memere’s Miracles will continue to walk and fight for a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. Through incredible research, some of which is being done right here at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, I do believe we will someday see the first survivor of this disease. This year, I will celebrate my birthday, with my grandmother in spirit, as Memere’s Miracles participates in the Sarpy County Walk to End Alzheimer’s.”In addition to the walk, participants will enjoy live entertainment, free food, and interaction with the following event sponsors: Runza, Hillcrest Health Services, KMTV, STAR 104.5, Cobalt Credit Union, and many more!“By participating in the Sarpy County Walk to End Alzheimer’s, area residents and businesses join the largest non-profit funder of Alzheimer’s research,” said Sharon Stephens, Executive Director of the Alzheimer’s Association Nebraska Chapter. “Until we find that cure, we must all share our stories of how Alzheimer’s has affected our family and friends, and continue to encourage others to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s. Together, we can do so much.”Approximately 5.8 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease, the sixth-leading cause of death in the U.S. and the only disease among the top 10 causes that cannot be cured, prevented or even slowed. Additionally, more than 16 million family and friends provide care to people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias in the U.S. In Nebraska alone, there are more than 34,000 people living with the disease and 83,000 caregivers.

Register today. Sign up as a Team Captain, join a team or register to walk as an individual at alz.org/walk
