I am thinking it's time for a Corn Dog!
I worked for at least 4 summers way back when at the Minnesota State Fair for John and Jan Desmond.
The Desmonds were the inventors of "Tom Thumb Donuts" those little cinnamon sugared donuts that they sell hot and fresh 12 to a bag, for a quarter.
Well, they are probably more than that now. Back then there was no such thing as cholesterol. I am not sure they had even figured out what calories were. The only thing to worry about was the quarter, and if you had a quarter then you could get a bag of donuts. Life was pretty darn simple.
John Desmond was the first entrepreneur I ever met. If you would have told him he was one, he probably would have put your lights out.
John used to be an engineer for Chrysler and he liked donuts in the morning. Jan got tired of this request, and John's solution was to weld an intake valve to a batter pump so each intake cycle cut a perfect donut into a pan of hot grease. Sweet!
He perfected his machine, got a booth at the fair and hired sweet teenage girls to sugar and bag hot fresh donuts and Boom! the Tiny Donuts Empire.
We worked 20 hour shifts, for 16 straight fair days, loved it, and loved the Desmonds for letting us work there.
Such an elegant little invention, I always admired that. They were way ahead of their time, and the idea of "portable" food back then was a pork chop. Of course, the King of portable food back then was the Corn Dog. Up there they were Pronto Pups the "Banquet on a Stick"
This time of year, when the weather starts to change, and there is crisp touch in the air, it really feels like time for a Pronto Pup, a Bag of Donuts. and maybe... some hot soup!
Wait, I just got a great idea!
what if the next legendary snack invention will be..
Soup on a Stick!
it's a Natural! Everyone loves Soup!
Just a couple logistic details, need a cool logo, and T-Shirts but hey think of the franchise possibilities!
