I am with the Great Plains Bicycling Club in Lincoln.  On Sunday, August 23, 2009 we are holding a bicycling event (ride) in the Platte River Valley area.  This is the 4th year we have held the event in the Platte River Valley area and it has become very popular.  We are hoping to get the word out to motorists so they know they will be sharing their roads with individuals and families that will be riding bikes on the area roads throughout the day.

bike_path.jpg

Riders will come from the Lincoln and Omaha area as well as many persons from the Platte Valley River area.  I am attaching files with a press release about the event, the brochure and the route map.  Anything you can do to get the word out will be greatly appreciated.

Let me know if any questions and thank you in advance.

---------------------------------
Manley, NE, August 18, 2009 - The Lofte Community Theatre announces that its next season installment,  "Over the River and Through the Woods" by Joe DiPietro opens on Friday, August 28th.  The comedy revolves around young Nick and his extended Italian-American family.

Nick's mom and dad have retired and have moved to Florida, but both sets of grandparents are still very much involved in his life.  Nick gets a chance to pursue his dream job, but threatens to move him far away from New Jersey and his grandparents.  Soon the loving, but meddlesome grannies decide that they must take evasive action.  They decide to find a nice girl for Nick so that he'll settle down and stay on the east coast!   This is a wonderful family comedy filled with laughs and heartfelt situations about growing up, growing older, and the things we lose and gain along the way.

Performing in their first Lofte production is Jason Weixelman and Chuck Danskin, both of Lincoln.   Both Mr. Weixelman and Mr. Danskin have an extensive history with the Lincoln Community Playhouse.  Also starring in the production are Mary Ann Stohlmann of Murdock, real-life husband and wife Bob and Margie Pinkerton of Weeping Water, and Allie Nielsen of Omaha.

Performances run August 28-30, September 4-6 and 10-13.  Curtain times Thursday-Saturday are 7:30pm and Sundays at 2pm.  Those interested in tickets, driving directions or other information about the theater may call the Lofte box office at (402) 234-2553 or visit their website, www.Lofte.com.

PLEASE HELP US SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT CASA IN YOUR COMMUNITY…WE NEED VOLUNTEERS FOR THE KIDS!

 casa_golf_benefit.png

The Cass County CASA Program will host its 2009 Golf Benefit at Bay Hills Golf Course in Plattsmouth on August 22, 2009.  Last year was the Program’s first Golf Benefit and we are extremely thankful for the generous support of the community.  At that time, many dedicated individuals and organizations helped raise more than $3,000 for the children served by the Cass County CASA Program.

In 2008, trained volunteers provided advocacy for 38 Cass County children who have been abused and neglected.  By the end of the year, thirteen of those children were placed in safe, permanent homes.

On behalf of the Cass County CASA Program, I invite you to sponsor a foursome to participate in the event.  If you are unable attend, the Program would appreciate your consideration in giving a cash donation.

Please come out and show your support for the children of Cass County who have been victimized and also for the many volunteers who work endlessly advocating for them.

The event will take place on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at Bay Hills Golf Course.  This is a four person scramble with a shotgun start.  The cost is $50 per person with check in beginning at Noon.  There will also be an auction, raffle, and many other prizes!  Dinner will be served and is available to non-golfers for $10.  Sign up forms are available at Bay Hills.

For more information contact Kim Carrera 296-9520.

The Further Adventures of. .
DEET MAN - Louisville Superhero

The Case of the Missing Lawn Signs

When Duty Calls mild mannered Deet Marinade, handsome  teenage lead guitar player for the popular Cherry Street garage band "Deet Marinade and the Chiggers" dons his familiar bug mask Green Cape and tights to become..

Deet Man

When last we heard from Deet and the boys, they were cleaning out the garage expecting Hickory (Sticks) Chriswisser to appear any minute, with his new Red Sparkle Drum Set. Suddenly...

  "It's Gone!!!!!"

shouted young Jimmy Stohlman, the band's  freckle faced, keyboards and tambourine player as he rounded the garage door spilling his Mountain Dew on the nice clean garage floor..

"It was there last Night, Now it's Gone!!"

"Now you just hold your horses young man" said Deet, "what the heck are you talking about?, and clean up that soda pop"

The Sign!

"that nice School Bond sign tha Aunt Marian asked me to put in the lawn!"

it said some thing like..

sos_signs.jpg

"Now you just settle a mite young Jim, I am sure you just moved it when you mowed the lawn last night... Say, ...Now that you mention it, I do not see the Hansens sign across the avenue or the Minchow's lawn sign at the end' of the block. Hmmm ..That is down right curious...."

"We seem to have a bit of a mystery on our hands!"

This is a Job for...

DEET MAN!!!

Quick as a Jiffy, mild mannered Deet Marinade disappears behind a Cotton Wood Tree, and emerges with the familiar green bug-mask and cape. Leaping into the unqualifed clunker Deet Mobile, Deet Man and Jimmy speed off to the river caves in search of clues.

"Look Deet Man, sawdust!!!"

Sure enough, Young simple minded tambourine player Jimmy Stohlman had spotted a tell tale trail of sawdust leading our heroes right down to one of the river caves...

EEEEEEKK!!!!

There in the Doorway, was Deet Man's arch enemy and general evil -doer "The Tick!" sipping on a Margarita with a sneer on his bug lips.

"You Stink Deet Man,  and now I have a partner, so it is curtains for you!!!"

said The Tick

"Holy Stolen Lawn Sign, Deet Man; It' s The Termite!!" gasped Jimmy as the bad bug buddy emerged, munching a stolen sign post!!!"

"Hand Over that  stollen sign post, pine breath!" Shouts an Enraged Deet Man. "That sign your are chewing is on loan from the Nebraska State Education Association !"

The Evil Tick set down his Margarita and picked up a fruit.

"Look Out Deet Man, that Tick has Limes!"

The Evil Tick  and Termite Duo takes a Step Towards our Hero.......

( to be continued....)

if you have information to assist DeetMan and Jimmy  in solving this mystery, or you wish to have a new sign delivered please email us at
