STATE SENATOR PANKONIN ANNOUNCES HE'LL SEEK SECOND TERM

Senator Cites Accomplishments And Trust
by Voters And Colleagues

Nebraska State Senator Dave Pankonin (District 2) announced today he will seek a second term serving the people of the Second District in the Nebraska Legislature.

Senator Pankonin was first elected in 2006. "It has been an honor and privilege to serve the citizens of District 2 as their state senator for the past three years," Senator Pankonin said. "Serving the constituents of this district has been a truly rewarding experience, and I sincerely appreciate the trust and confidence they have placed in me."

Senator Pankonin was elected by his fellow state senators as chairman of the Legislature's Retirement Systems Committee after serving just two years in the Unicameral. He also serves as vice chairman of the Health and Human Services Committee and is a member of the Banking, Commerce and Insurance Committee. Senator Pankonin also was selected to serve on the Legislature's Committee on Committees, which determines the Legislature's committee assignments. He has established a fiscally responsible voting record over the past three years and his multiple leadership positions are an indication that he is trusted by his colleagues in the Legislature.

Senator Pankonin was instrumental in passing legislation to fund the Nebraska Lied Main Street Program that helped communities in District 2. He sponsored legislation that was enacted to help protect citizens from instances of stockbroker fraud and deception. Senator Pankonin also stood up for his constituents and worked to protect their property against eminent domain action by a governmental subdivision.

"Serving in the Unicameral is a lot of hard work, but being able to represent the people of the Second District and address some of the important issues for our area of the state has been a satisfying experience. I am asking the voters to allow me to continue that service for another term," Senator Pankonin said.

Dave Pankonin and his wife Lori have been married for more than 34 years. They have two children. Son Paul, who is married with two children, is the fifth generation to be employed at the family farm equipment dealership in Lousiville, Nebraska. Daughter Stephanie was married this summer and lives in Hastings, Nebraska. Prior to his election to the Legislature, Senator Pankonin served as Mayor of Louisville, and before that was elected to two terms on the Louisville School Board.

Lofte Community Theatre Receives Tree Planting Funds

lofte_trees.jpg

Manley - The 2009 Trees for Nebraska Towns (TNT) has awarded tree planting grants to twenty-seven projects in twenty-three communities in Nebraska.  The TNT community landscaping grant program is managed by the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum (NSA) and funded by the Nebraska Environmental Trust (NET)

Manley is one of the communities that received landscape funds through this program.  The Lofte Commuity Theatre Windbreak Project received $12,880.   Anne Pope applied for the funds and will coordinate the project.

TNT was developed to address tree loss in Nebraska and to improve the overall health, sustainability and species diversity of Nebraska’s community trees. It is coordinated by Nebraska Statewide Arboretum, Inc. and is part of ReTree Nebraska efforts to plant a million trees by 2017 (http://www.retreenebraska.edu). To help achieve these goals, the Nebraska Environmental Trust (NET), a beneficiary of the Nebraska Lottery, is providing $1 million in grant funding to enable high-quality tree planting and associated landscaping in communities across the state.  For more information about the TNT program contact NSA at (402) 472-2971.

The Nebraska Statewide Arboretum is both a non-profit horticultural organization and a program of the Nebraska Forest Service, part of the University of Nebraska’s Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources. NSA achieves its mission of “sustainable landscapes for healthy homes and communities” through initiatives in education, community landscapes and the environment (arboretum.unl.edu).

The Lofte Community Theatre is a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization supported in part by The Cooper Foundation, The Midlands Community Foundation, and the Cass County Visitors Promotion Committee.  The Lofte Community Theatre is dedicated to providing opportunities for area residents of all ages to participate in the creation process and companionship of live theatre in rural Nebraska and to enjoy the social, artistic, and educational benefits of this art form.

By Danielle Kleber on Monday, November 30, 2009 - 03:16 pm:

I wanted everyone to know about an event that my company will be hosting this Saturday that is Free! We are hosting a Family Fun Day where families can come and do something active and fun together. We'll have fun games and relays for all fitness levels, prizes, and provide lunch. The event is absolutely free and we are just up the road from Louisville at 138th & Industrial Rd. (Keep in mind that the activities will probably not be well suited for small toddlers, but elementary and middle school kids would have a blast).

You can get more information at:

Or feel free to call me (Danielle) at 301-4639.
Hope to see you there!
