LIVING LAST SUPPER AT CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH

THURSDAY APRIL 1, 2010

An original Living Last Supper will be presented Holy Thursday, April 1, 2010, at First Congregational Church at 7:30 p.m.  The original script, written by Pastor Mary McQueen, uses three readers (one you regularly see at Loft Theater productions,)  and depicts Jesus actually washing the feet of the disciples.  As each disciple

enters,  the readers tell the story of their calling to be a disciple and their life after Jesus is crucified.

 Everyone is welcome.

Otoe County Rural Schools Reunion

When: Saturday, April 10 2010

6265 'Q' Road
Nebraska City, NE 68410
Description: On April 10th, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, the Otoe County Genealogical Society will host its 1st Annual Otoe County Rural Schools Reunion at Harmony School at 6265 'Q' Road, which is located 8 miles south of Nebraska City on Highway 75, and ½ mile west on ‘Q’ road. Harmony School is a rural schoolhouse that was built in 1879, and was closed in 1997.  This reunion will include a coffee social and tour of the 130-year old rural schoolhouse. In addition, it will also give visitors a chance to assist our society in identifying numerous unidentified rural schoolhouse photographs from several different school districts throughout the county. The society has come into possession of these prized photographs through their Otoe County Courthouse Clean-up Project, in which these photographs were donated to the society by the Otoe County Clerk’s office, and through other generous donations as well.  So please come join us at Harmony School and help us pay tribute to the outstanding contributions that these rural schoolhouses made in the education of our state’s youth for the past 100 years now!

MAKING A POSITIVE DIFFERENCE

For Immediate Release:

ATTENTION, AREA YOUTH

March 19, 2010, Lincoln- High school students are invited to take on the
role of state senators at the Unicameral Youth Legislature June 13-16 at the
State Capitol Building in Lincoln. This is an annual event, during which student
senators sponsor bills, conduct committee hearings, debate legislation and
discover the unique process of the nation's only unicameral legislature.

The Unicameral Youth Legislature gives behind-the-scenes access to students,
who have an interest in public office, government, politics, law, public policy,
debate or public speaking. Students learn about the inner workings of the legislature
directly from staff and senators. State senators often address the students at this
conference. I have participated twice. I really enjoyed the experiences, because the
young people who attended the event were so willing to learn and discuss new ideas.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Extension 4-H Youth Development Office
coordinates housing and recreational activities for the Unicameral Youth Legislature
as part of the Big Red Summer Camps program. The Legislature's web site provides
information and a video about the youth legislature at
www.nebraskalegislature.gov/education/unicamyouth.php.

If you have questions about the program, please contact the Unicameral Information Office
at 402-471-2788 or uio@leg.ne.gov This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

The registration deadline for the 2010 Unicameral Youth Legislature is May 1.

The Nebraska Agricultural Youth Institute (NAYI) is celebrating its 39th anniversary in 2010.
Every year the NAYI offers high school students an opportunity to learn about the agricultural
industry, develop leadership skills, and practice critical thinking and decision-making at a
summer program in Lincoln. This year the dates for the Institute are July 6-10.
The NAYI is coordinated and conducted by the Nebraska Agricultural Youth Council (NAYC).
The Council includes 16 college-age men and women, who are selected to educate high school
students in Nebraska about the importance of the agricultural industry to our state.  I was pleased
to learn that two of this year's Council members are from Legislative District 2.  They are
Melissa Keyes from Springfield and Kalby Wehrbein from Plattsmouth.

Last year approximately 140 delegates attended the Institute. Knowledgeable speakers
motivated the delegates by discussing current agricultural issues and describing the many
opportunities the industry has to offer at the local, state, national and international levels.

If you are a high school junior or senior this year, the NAYI can provide you with an
opportunity to make a difference in agriculture. If you would like to be among the young leaders
chosen to attend the 2010 Institute, applications are now available on-line at
www.agr.ne.gov.
You can also request an application form or more information about this program by calling
402-471-6864 or by writing to Cody Dvorak at agr.nayi@nebraska.gov This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Registration deadline for the 2010 Nebraska Agricultural Youth Institute is April 15.

I appreciate the opportunity you have given me to represent District 2 in the Nebraska Legislature.

  Dear Louisvillians,

Well, it’s official according to the calendar and according to the thermometer outside.  With readings in the fifties and a yellow ball of fire blazing brightly in the sky, there are indications that spring has commenced here in Louisville.  Though the first day or two of spring was a little rough, I would venture to guess that most of you were more than happy to see the sunshine peek through the gray clouds and listen to the chirping calls of birds in the morning…even if they DID wake you up!

Have you noticed a change in the last couple of days as spring has tiptoed into our lives?  There is a buzz in the outside air that now exists; people actually are walking, jogging, and starting the yard clean-up that is sure to keep us all occupied for awhile.  The smell of meat grilling is evident as it wafts through the air, and people are beginning to search for those little indications of life:  tiny green sprouts in the black earth that indicate tulips are certain to bloom, grass that has changed from a dingy brown color to a brilliant green and, of course, if you’re a farm kid (or farm kid at heart), you know what’s going on with animals…lots of new babies in the springtime!

Ahh…yes, spring is in the air.  What does that mean for you?  Is this a time of change?  Renewal? Growth?  A time to pause and reflect on life and what is going on all around you?  All around us, the signs of spring offer hope for new beginnings after a long and lifeless winter.  Enjoy it.  Treasure the time spent outdoors.  The changing seasons offer us all a chance at change.  Seize the opportunity.

And…while you’re “seizing”, it might be nice to “seize” a couple pieces of trash while you’re walking around town or on the trail.  As the snow piles melted down to flatness, the ugly hidden pieces of garbage started to rear their ugly heads.  My husband and I took a walk on the trail this past weekend, and we were astounded by the amount of trash that we saw between the trail and the highway.  If everyone lends a hand, we’ll be looking fresh, tidy and new as we continue to enjoy the sunny days of spring here in Louisville.   The weatherman promises “seasonable weather and temperatures” this week.  Take advantage, everyone!  Enjoy your lovely springtime days.

Your Louisville Editor,

Paula
