(402) 234-2553

leavingiowa

The Lofte Community Theatre near Manley will hold auditions for “Leaving Iowa” on January 31 and February 1 at 7pm.  The production requires three men and three women.  Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.  The production will be directed by Kevin Colbert of Weeping Water.

“Leaving Iowa” is the story of Don Browning, a middle-aged writer who decides it is finally time to take his father’s ashes to his childhood home.  But when Don discovers that Grandma’s house is now a grocery store, he begins traveling across Iowa searching for a proper resting place for his father.  The father-and-son road trip shifts smoothly from the present to Don’s memories of the annual tortuous vacations of his childhood.

The production will serve as the Lofte’s entry in the upcoming Nebraska Association of Community Theaters competition March 18-20.  It will also be the 2011 season opener for the Lofte with performance dates on May 28, 29, June 3-5 and 9-12.

Those with questions in regards to the production should contact Lofte Artistic Director Kevin Colbert at (402) 234-2553.

Dear Louisvillians,
Many of you probably think that January isn't a month filled with many holidays.  Other than Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which we celebrated on Monday, and, of course, New Year's Day which marked the beginning of all those New Year's Resolutions you're still fulfilling (!), the calendar doesn't have many special events.  This made me start wondering if there were some holidays that I might be missing or certain days that I needed to start celebrating.  A quick google search yielded lucrative results:  namely, a website called:  www.holidayinsights.com.  Here, I found that EVERY day of January warrants a special celebration.  Who knew?  So, I decided to include a small little sampling below of the upcoming celebrations.
Did you know that January 18 was Thesaurus Day, since it's Peter Roget (writer/editor of Roget's Thesaurus) birthday.  How could you celebrate such a magical occasion?  Perhaps a "word party", a game of Scrabble or Balderdash, or an attempt at the old-fashioned "choose-an-alternative-word-from-your-same-old-boring-word-choice" option.
I certainly smiled when I read about some of these "holidays."  Maybe you'll get a kick out of them too.  Enjoy learning about these special days...find a way to celebrate them, if you wish!  Happy January!

Enjoy your special January days, Louisvillians!  :)
