Blood Drives - American Red Cross
During the summer months, blood donations often drop to low levels. As the nation’s single largest supplier of blood products and specialized laboratory services to
area hospitals, the Red Cross needs your help to remind all eligible donors that summer is a good time to give.
From May 25 through Sept. 14, presenting donors (age 18 and older) can register online at redcrossracing.com to enter the Red Cross Racing “Summer Drive
Sweepstakes.” Enter for a chance to win a new, fuel-efficient 2012 Ford Fiesta SE.
Red Cross Racing participants also get points for activities like giving blood and recruiting blood donors. Points can be redeemed at any time for fun racing-themed
prizes or donated to support the Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces.
Thank you for your continuing support to help build awareness about the upcoming American Red Cross blood drives in your community. Please let me know if you
need any additional information.
Blood Donors Can Get Going this Summer with the American Red Cross
The more donors “give” the better chance they have to “go” to Orlando, Florida!
Blood donations often decline during the summer while the need for blood remains constant. Approximately every two seconds a patient needs a blood transfusion.
This summer the Red Cross has introduced the Good to Give. Good to Go. promotion as a special way to thank those who make time to give blood during the summer
months.
Good to Give. Good to Go. is designed to raise awareness of the need for summer blood donors and to encourage frequent American Red Cross donations. All
presenting donors (ages 21 and older) between May 16 and September 7, 2011 will have a chance to win a trip for four to Orlando, Florida each time they visit the Red
Cross. Presenting donors of all ages are eligible to win other fun summer prizes during specific holiday timeframes!

Nebraska attractions open for business
Flooding closes one Passport site
LINCOLN, NEB. (June 9, 2011)—Potential flooding has closed one attraction on the 2011 Nebraska Passport, but the other 32 remain open.
The Passport program rewards participants with prizes for visiting and collecting stamps from attractions featured in a souvenir passport.
Buffalo Bill State Historical Park in North Platte, one of the passport sites, is closed temporarily due to rising water on the North Platte River. Passport participants canget their Buffalo Bill stamps at the North Platte/Lincoln County Convention and Visitors Bureau, 1221 S. Dewey St., Suite A, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.
All other North Platte attractions, including Cody Park, the Golden Spike Tower and Visitor Center, and Fort Cody Trading Post, are open, and the town’s annual NEBRASKAland Days celebration kicks off Saturday. Additionally, the 32 other passport sites and most attractions across the state are open.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the communities affected by flooding,” said Christian Hornbaker, director of the Department of Economic Development’s Traveland Tourism Division. “At the same time, we want travelers to know that most of the parks and attractions in Nebraska are open for business, and we encourage people to get out and explore the state.”
Although there is flooding along the Missouri River near the town of Niobrara, the Niobrara River near Valentine, Neb., is open for tubing, canoeing and other water sports.
“We have been getting a lot of calls here in Valentine from people concerned that the Niobrara River is flooding as well,” said Dean Jacobs, executive director of theValentine Chamber of Commerce and Cherry County Tourism. “Just to be clear, the river here is not flooding. In fact, the levels are perfect right now for floating.”
Travelers can check the status of their destinations at the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency website, http://www.nema.nebraska.gov/
