2011 Street Construction

First of all, thanks to all residents for their patience during street construction season. Just keep positive thoughts about how nice it’s going to be when everything is done! Milling is almost complete and they will be starting to lay the asphalt either the end of this week or the beginning of next. The process to lay the asphalt is to first clean (with brooms) to prepare the surface, pour then compact. The final step is to cool. The cooling process takes approximately four hours, unless, of course, the temperature is really high. Barricades will be used to keep you off hot asphalt.

This asphalt project is fairly quick and will only keep you from using your driveway for hours instead of weeks!! Before they start and if they see a car in the driveway, they’ll inform you so you can move your car. Please feel free to call the city office with any questions.

Manley, NE [July 5, 2011] -

The Lofte Community Theatre announces that its summer musical, "Annie," will open Friday, July 22, 2011.

“Annie” is a spunky Depression-era orphan determined to find her parents, who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage run by the cruel, embittered Miss Hannigan. Soon Annie befrie nds President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and finds a new family and home in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary Grace Farrell and a loveable mutt named Sandy.

Ellie Swanson of Lincoln stars in the title role. Kris Raasch (also of Lincoln) plays he cantankerous Oliver Warbucks. Anna Stroebel of Omaha plays the conniving Miss Hannigan. Players from the Louisville area include Lea Kalkowski, Ellie Giese, Jamion and Jade Biesterfeld, Brenda Jones, and Anne Riha. The production is directed by Lofte Artistic Director, Kevin Colbert.

Performance dates are July 22-24, 28-31 and August 4-7. Curtain times are 7:30pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Sundays are 2pm matinees. Tickets for adults are $18. Children under the age of 12 are only $10.

FIDDLING WORKSHOPS

The Old Avoca (Nebraska) Schoolhouse will be hosting a Twin Fiddling Workshop on Saturday, August 6, from 1 PM - 3 PM, for fiddlers (or violinists or violists) who want to learn to play nicely together with their fellow-fiddlers (or violinists or violists). Fiddlers (or violinists or violists) of any age and experience level are encouraged to enroll. Championship fiddler and fiddle book author, Deborah Greenblatt will share some tunes, hints about arranging for two fiddles, playing back-up, etc. The Workshop takes place in the historic Old Avoca Schoolhouse, in Avoca, Nebraska.
