B.U.I.L.D. Minutes

July 12, 2011

Thought for the day:

Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones,

you’ll start having positive results. – Willie Nelson

Members and guests present: Andy Mixan, Dee Arias, John Yochum, Kari
Wockenfuss, Patti Jo Peterson, Dane Becker and Chris Noda.

Andy Mixan presided over the meeting in President Terri Scholting’s absence.
The minutes from the June 7, 2011 meeting were read and approved by the
group.

Treasurer’s Report – Treasurer Andy Mixan
The BUILD account balance is currently $4,012.14.

Old Business:
Dee Arias, through an e-mail from Mike Krambeck, gave an update on the QR
codes and the digital historical tour of Louisville. Six video segments have been
completed and three others are in different stages of production. The tour will be
promoted during B.U.I.L.D.’s Morning Blend appearance.

Dee reported that the fireworks stand had a record year in sales. There should
be a bonus on top of the $5,000 for the extra sales. It will take Bellino several
weeks to complete all of their paperwork and get the check to B.U.I.L.D.

Welcome/Membership Committee: Jean Heim/Jeanne Anderson
No report.

Events Committee: Nancy McManis/Dee Arias
The group was updated on the Last Hot Sunday in July. Volunteers are needed
for various duties. Door prizes are still needed. The possibility of wooden nickels
was discussed. Dash plaques and last year’s t-shirts will be given away to the
first 75 registrants. Nancy and Dee will be appearing on the Morning Blend on
July 27th to promote the car show. LCC will be holding an apron show at the
same time and will also be promoted.

Economic Development Update:

John Yochum reported for Economic Development in Cass County. He has been
visiting with existing businesses in the last month. Some are adding 1-2 new
employees, which is a good sign. Retaining businesses is just as important as
finding new businesses.

Presentation Committee:
Terri Scholting (chair)
The new flags were installed by the city crew.

Marketing Committee: Nancy McManis (chair)
The radio and TV spots for the Last Hot Sunday in July were briefly discussed.

Fundraising:
Fireworks were already discussed. A new chairperson needs to be found for this
committee. More discussion at a later meeting.

New Business:
T-shirts for middle school and high school LPS students was discussed. The new
superintendent approached the Mayor about B.U.I.L.D. being involved in the
project. Some points of discussion included: B.U.I.L.D.’s role and mission, better
suited for a Booster’s project, good way of “paying back” Louisville for helping
B.U.I.L.D., whose responsibility, new superintendent might not be aware of
Booster club, gladly provide list of business contacts, donations, B.U.I.L.D.’s lack
of funds and/or fundraisers and the annual continuation of the project. Andy will
reach out to new superintendent for more insight. Decision was tabled for lack of
attendance at this meeting.

A marketer for the Omaha Storm Chasers contacted Andy Mixan about
promoting Louisville at Werner Park. The idea was to have a Louisville Business
night for client/customer appreciation. Patti Jo said Weeping Water does
something similar with the Saltdogs and it’s for the whole community. Dane
mentioned that he is involved with a group in Omaha that does the same thing
with Werner Park. The idea of the mascot coming to the Last Hot Sunday in
July was suggested. There was definite interest shown so Andy will gather more
information.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at the Assisted
Living Facility.
