UMC SAreward

First United Methodist Church in Louisville rang the bell for their Christmas fund raising program more hours than any other church in the Omaha Metro Area.  We also raised more money per hour than any other church.  We averaged over 60 dollars per hour rang.
This is our churches second time to win the award and second year in a row.

BUILD Meeting Minutes

April 1st, 2014

"Greg Shepard gave a Louisville Public Schools update. They have just finished the long process of becoming Nationally Accredited and are very excited about the accomplishment. The school has purchased the property along the railroad tracks and has plans to improve the buildings. They are also working on a grant from OPPD to build a berm along the tracks to make the appearance better and act as a sound barrier from the trains. A walking trail is in the beginning stages of planning. The gym renovations are in full swing. Greg also reported that the 8th grade class takes a field trip to Springfield, IL annually and are always looking for donations. A committee is being formed to establish policies for advertisements throughout the school and on the grounds for local businesses. More information to follow.
Mayor Mueller reported that a new site is being investigated for a ball complex. Some options were discussed."

Louisville Public Library Update

Happy April!!!!
I hope this update finds everyone doing well. I am writing to share some of the exciting things that are taking place at your local Louisville Public Library. We had our monthly board meeting last evening and I wanted to bring some exciting news to you. Please remember that our board meetings are always open to the public and
we would love to see you there!

First, we have received a generous donation from Securitas Security Services of 6 computer systems. We are working at getting these up and running. This is exciting news as a couple of our computers are very outdated and need to be retired. This will allow the library to have 8 computer systems available for use. We will be
working on getting these systems up and running. If you are interested in helping with this process and are computer savvy, please contact the library for ways to assist. Also, we have 6 computer desks/tables currently. If you or someone you know would be interested in donating a computer table or funds to purchase some computer tables, please let us know by contacting the library. Remember donations to the library have the opportunity to be used as a tax deduction, just ask for a receipt for your records.

Next, we are in the process of our Change for Change fundraising drive for the Louisville Public Library. Local businesses have been very generous in allowing us to place collection containers at their locations to assist with the fundraising drive. This fundraiser will run during April 7-18. We are looking for the communities support to help with this fundraiser. Funds that are obtained will go to help make needed changes and improvements to our library. Thank you in advance for your support and for passing on this information to others.

We will be having a Scholastic Book Fair at the library during the first week of the Summer Reading Program. This will be during June 16-21. The types of books that will be available at the book fair will be for all ages, including adults. We are also planning on having some extended evening hours during that time to allow more people access to the book fair. We are looking for people to help staff the book fair. If you are interested and willing to help, please let us know!

We are looking to expand our library board by adding a high school student and a senior citizen member to our board. We are speaking with the school to see about the  process of having a student nominated to the board. We would like to also add a senior citizen. If you know someone who is a senior citizen, please encourage them to contact the library about this exciting opportunity. If you are a senior citizen, please let Darla or one of the board members know of your interest. This would be a regular member to the board and would have full voting privileges. We feel these positions would really help to bring a much needed diversity to the library board. Transportation would be available if needed. Library board members do need to live in the city limits.

Finally, we have been doing some research about starting an official Friends of the Library Association. This would be an exciting opportunity to help create this group from the start. We are looking at establishing a mission statement, goals, and bylaws. Friends of the Library associations have many benefits, including assisting with the opportunity to receive grant funding for our library. This would allow for more funds for our library and who couldn't use more funds! I would love to have some assistance in developing this group. If you are interested in helping, please contact the library with your contact information.

I am planning on sending out an update monthly, so until next month...

Sincerely,
Tami Michalski
Louisville Public Library Board Member

Your Computer "Died" Yesterday

Just a note from old Computer John of Louisville
My guess is that if you own an "old" desktop type computer, you probably have an operating system called Windows XP that makes it run.
You may have heard, or seen something on the Internet about the Death of WINXP on 4/8/2014 - yet you are using that computer and it works just fine.

My recommendation is that you do nothing, and stop worrying about it. God knows you have lots of other things to worry about.

Here is Microsoft's (the creator of the software) statement on the Death of WINXP 4/8/2014

If you continue to use Windows XP after support ends, (04/08/2014) your computer will still work but it might become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses. Also, as more software and hardware manufacturers continue to optimize for more recent versions of Windows, you can expect to encounter greater numbers of apps and devices that do not work with Windows XP.

In fairness it is a 12 year old operating system (piece of software) and my guess is that it was expected to have a 10 year life, but the economy and other factors added 2 years to it's official life, and Microsoft deserves a chance to move on and sell you new stuff.
If you are concerned and want to get something new; you can upgrade Read Here buy the Windows 7 Operating System http://goo.gl/Z80MsB for $100 or for $200 look for a new or "refurb" computer that is running Windows 7 (try www.Walmart.com search for Windows 7) or EBay) probably a better option but avoid Windows 8 for a variety of reasons .....but I stand by my recommendation to do nothing.
Ok, I changed my mind..do 3 things free:
1) on the bottom/left of you screen is the "Start" button
Click that, then Click Run... it will drop a little dialog box and type:  msconfig
Click OK, look for where it says Startup and Click that.
Then tell it to Disable All - Click Apply and then re-start your computer.
That step eliminates all the nasty stuff that starts every time you start your computer "for your convenience" even though you never asked it to do that for you.

get some free malware protection. They support XP and plan to continue
3) Do a DEFRAG
Get a friend to teach you do a DEFRAG of you computer hard drive, or Type DEFRAG in your Start / Search for instructions. It is a very simple task - one that you should do from time to time.
Do the following 3 free tasks, and then relax and enjoy your "Old" computer running Windows XP for another 10 years!
