NEW CASA VOLUNTEERS

From Julie - Editor of www.ElmwoodNebraska.com

CASA

Cass County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Program Welcomes Three New Volunteers

The Cass County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Program is proud to announce that three new CASA Volunteers were sworn-in by Judge John Steinheider on February 17, 2015.   A brief reception was held following the swearing in to wish the new CASA Volunteers well in their advocacy for Cass County’s abused and neglected children.  The new CASA volunteers are Cathi Bond, Heidi Cline and Jen Rackley.

There are a total of 19 Cass County children who are under the jurisdiction of the court because of abuse and/or neglect.Children range in age from two to 19 years old.  Currently, ten active CASA volunteers are advocating for these children.

CASA volunteers usually work with one case at a time. They get to know the children and write reports for the Judge, making recommendations about what would be best for the child. They become a stable, reliable presence in the child’s life during a very difficult time, and advocate for the child to have a safe and permanent home as quickly as possible.

The Cass County CASA program was started in 2005.   CASA volunteers are ordinary people doing an extraordinary thing by having an impact on the lives of abused and neglected children.  Most volunteers donate about 2 hours per week (or 8 hours a month) and all training is provided.  A portion of the pre-service training expenses were paid for by a grant from the Nebraska CASA Association.  If you are interested or want more information, please call or e-mail Angie Neumiller, Program Director at 402-296-9520 or director@casscasa.org or visit our website at www.casscasa.org.

Cass County CASA program is a 501c3 program that is funded by donations, grants, Keno funds and fundraisers.  Our next fundraiser will be April 18 at Slattery’s Vintage Estates from 5-10pm with Silver Wings band as entertainment.

NEBRASKA GRAPE AND WINERY BOARD SEEKS GRANT PROPOSALS

March 1, 2015 - The Nebraska Grape and Winery Board is seeking grant proposals from individual growers, farm wineries, organizations, industry groups, or academic institutions that aim to assist in the betterment of Nebraska’s grape and wine industry.  The Board’s goal is to fund meaningful projects that have the highest likelihood of significant, positive impact on grape and wine production in Nebraska.

Grant proposals will be considered on a competitive basis. Interested parties wishing to receive funds must submit a detailed proposal for review and approval by the Nebraska Grape and Winery Board.  Proposals must clearly explain how the money will be used and how it will enhance the competitiveness of Nebraska’s grape and wine industry.  The Board anticipates funding proposals during the upcoming fiscal year (July 1, 2015 - June 30, 2016).  Funding for projects will be subject to the availability of funds.  Applications can be submitted electronically on or before Friday, May 1, 2015, to ruthc.anderson@yahoo.com or by U.S. Mail, postmarked on or before Friday, May 1, 2015, and sent to Ruth C. Anderson, 403 Strickler Street, Waco, NE 68460.

Eligible projects must enhance the competitiveness of Nebraska’s grapes and wines and may focus on research, promotion, marketing, trade enhancement, education, “buy local” programs, improved efficiency and reduced costs of distribution systems, product development, developing cooperatives, and other opportunities.  Proposals should be initiated by individual growers, farm wineries, organizations, industry groups or academic institutions, or may involve collaboration or partnerships between producers, industry groups, academics, or other organizations.  Grant proposals must show how the project will benefit the entire grape and wine industry, and not a particular business ventureAny and all outcomes and records, resulting from a funded project, must be available for examination upon request by members of the public.  Two – five year project proposals will be considered, subject to annual review and re-authorization.

Grant proposal guidelines and application information can be found at http://www.grapeandwineryboard.nebraska.gov/grant_information.html. For more information, contact Ruth C. Anderson, Nebraska Grape and Winery Board Services Contractor at ruthc.anderson@yahoo.com.
