Neither Wind, Nor Rain, Nor Dark Of Night..
Louisville Postmaster Takes the Lead

May 28th, 2005 the Community welcomed our new Postmaster, Allison Gifford to her official post and 68037 had a new skipper at the helm.

This Photo was taken today as she watched over her office:

Allison's journey to 202 Cherry Street was her Destiny, as she is a
Third Generation Postmaster. Allison's mother was a Postmaster, and her mother's father was a Postmaster before her.

Allison graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications and a Minor in Business Management. Her job as Postmaster includes managing budgets, expenses and staffing. She is also asked to provide education and support to the Community.
The Post Office, like any other business stretches out to reach revenue goals.

Allison explained that her Post Office gets credit for all postal activities that tie back to a
68037 on the return address.

When you buy your stamps or mail your package at our Louisville Post Office, our Post Office gets credit for the revenue and that helps justify staff and staff hours for the folks that work there. It matters when you choose to do business locally.

What I did not know, is that ALL mail service activity that includes a 68037 return zip code counts towards meeting their objectives.
When you use EBay and choose the USPS shipping option, and you show a 68037 return address, it counts. If you do a bulk mailing, or use other online postal Service Features, it also credits our Local Post Office.

Allison encourages the Community to ask her, about Mailing Services and let her find convenient and cost effective solutions for all of us, and especially the local businesses.

She did mentioned that being in a small town is a special experience as a Postmaster. There is a tendency for folks to expect that you are all knowing, and it is common to get questions or phone calls about that Old Lady that used to live on the corner of 2nd Street, or the hours at the Library and she does her best to help everyone with questions, even if they are not within her responsibilities.

Recently Allison was took on additional responsibility as the Chair Person of the important Marketing Committee for BUILD

This Committee is responsible for Selling Louisville as an Attractive Community Option to the world, and they are currently planning magazine and television campaigns that promote our local events.

Recently Allison's involvement in BUILD provided a special benefit. Knowing that she had the ability to request a special tribute to Louisville celebrating our 150th Birthday, an official request was made to create a cancellation stamp recognizing this event, for one day, and one day only; April 20th, 2007 the day of the anxiously awaited super Louisville Trivia Challenge Contest

The request was recently approved by the Postal Service and on that Day all mail mailed from the Louisville Post Office will have that special mark.
Special Post Cards will also be made available on that Day!
