The Barber Factor
Louisville's exciting Trivia/History contest made History!

BUILD President Teri Scholting's inspired idea, made it's own history when the crowd assembled last Friday April 20, 2007 6:30PM in the Louisville Gymnasium.

The many hours of organization and preparation by Dee, and Nancy and the BUILD Events Committee paid off with a record crowd of 135 including a Nebraska Senator and Mayor and many dignitaries.

Teri credits all the volunteers for the success, but she especially wants to thank Paul and Johanna Pankonin.

The process of assembling and verifying the largest ever bank of Louisville related questions, but then multiple answers including several plausible wrong answers for each question, well do the math! That was a monumental task.
Paul and Johanna deserve special recognition for taking on this project, and then officiating at the actual contest.

Here, thanks to Paul are the Contest Questions and Answers:
How would you have done?

It was great fun and very exciting watching the team members struggle with each question, and that squeeze the buzzer trigger to announce they had an answer.

As you might imagine, you not only had to be fast on the buzzer, you also had to have the right answer.

From my vantage point, it seemed like Denny Barnes
(Louisville's answer to Floyd the Barber in Mayberry RFD )
was the most consistently fast and correct.
I asked Teri if selecting Denny to be a team member was a strategic move, she said:
"Well you can't do all those hair cuts, and not learn a thing or two about the town!"

Teri's team, the American Family's Final Four including Denny the Barber
won 1st Place!

I hope everyone had as much fun as we did.....

The American Family "Final Four" won Louisville's 150 Year Trivia Challenge and they have the shirts to prove it!!! (Thanks to Todd at Snowdog)The consolation prize for the runner-ups
(The City Hall-Stars) was a "Trivia for Dummies" game!

I'd like to personally thank Paul Pankonin for doing so much work on the contest. I know he put a LOT of hours into it and he is appreciated. Also Johanna for keeping time and Linda Allen for keeping score....we couldn't have done the contest without them.

Weren't the prizes fabulous? The businesses came through with flying colors....thanks to those that contributed prizes or sponsored teams.

Thanks to everyone that came out and made the event such a huge success!!!

I wish to add a special "thank you" as well! So many people coming together to make it happen, that's what it's all about!

We not only met our goal, we exceeded it and we will be celebrating Louisville's 150th Birthday in a grand "CELEBRATION" (this year's theme) over Memorial Day weekend for all to enjoy! Please mark your calendars, you won't want to miss it!!

We have photos, and a recap of the team matches here:

Louisville has Plants!!!
By Nancy Kratky on Monday, April 23, 2007 - 09:48 pm:

The Greenhouse at Timber View is overflowing with plants!
So, this Saturday, April 28th, from 10AM to 4PM we will be hosting a plant sale!
There are Roma tomato plants (+100), Jalapeno Peppers (+50), Marconi peppers (+40), Basil (+50) in addition to several other varieties of plants.
It's time to be planning for making that Salsa & Spaghetti Sauce!

Also... hundreds of birdhouses will be available for sale in case you want to do some early Mother's Day shopping! (We have the inventory from 'A Birdhouse' that was previously in Louisville).

We have garden planters, trellises, and other garden items too! It's supposed to be a nice day! So plan to stop out for a visit - if nothing else just to see what we are up to! We are located just West of the Platte River State Park at 34404 East Park Highway.

See you then! Ken and Nancy Kratky....

WIFI Update
The WireLess Louisville Initiative is on track to greet our Summer campers, and vacation travelers with our special creative hospitality!

BUILD Economic Development Chair John Plucknett challenged Andy Mixan and John Harrington to spearhead this initiative and Main Street businesses have joined in. Louisville has taken a leadership position in Cass County and this summer we are making John's idea of a WireLess Louisville reality.

If you visit the worlds largest WIFI HotSpot directory, you will see that Louisville, is Cass County's first Free WiFi. That is just one small part of an overall BUILD approach to keep Louisville, fresh and attractive to business people and visitors.

This last week the Louisville Library came on line, with Broadband Wireless Internet, and the new Main Street Cafe is online! This is now the definitive Business Lunch destination between Omaha and Lincoln.
Coverage from the Cafe WIFI system will cover not only the Good Times Pub but also the Envy Salon.
We will be going online with the Art Gallery and the Havenmakers Building in the next few weeks, providing the best WIFI coverage outside of Omaha.
We are very appreciative of the folks at to provide a WIFI link, that helps our parks and vacation travelers to remember that
