What's New?

July 10, 2007

Polls are Open till 8PM
The recall election for Cass County's District Four and District Five commissioners is underway, and much discussion has been posted at the Louisville Nebraska Discussion Forum.
The Discussion Forum is available
here: http://www.louisvillenebraska.com/discus/discus.cgi

Some Excerpts from the Discussion Forum Topic include:
Marie:
Recalls are very messy. One writer encouraged you to vote based on what you thought of the Road Building vote. That is the classic problem with Recall; they put the incumbent's entire career up for referendum-style vote based on one issue they don't like. That is unfair as you will never agree on all issues. If this is the way we will treat our elected officials, who will we get to run?

Trevor:
I'd make my decision based on what I thought about the original vote and not what outside or Plattsmouth-based interests were involved. .....

Justin:
I was under the impression that he {Commissioner Nielsen} was very forward in stating that this was one of his initiatives in during his campaign. If this is true, and if the voting citizens knew this going into the election and they still voted for him, then why are we trying to make this an issue now? ....

Don
Justin, we have to remember if we're not growing our tax base, we'll grow the burden for existing property owners in the county including you and everyone else. RESTORING FISCAL INTEGRITY is another cause for voting YES on the recall. .....

Craig:
I usually keep my opinions to myself but this whole thing is a joke and has cost the county more money by not letting these 2 individuals do their job ...

Commissioner Nielsen: ( via Kathy Milburn)
Nobody should talk down to me about my pride in this County.
Before I decided to run for this seat, I talked to many of you, and I heard first hand what was on the mind of the taxpayers in this district. What was on your minds was the same thing that was on my mind, better roads and bridges in our part of the county and the way that the roads department just seemed to do whatever it wanted to, regardless of our concerns.
