Even though Halloween is past, there is a SPELL over Louisville Public Schools and you can be a part of it!

Each year, the LPS Parent Teacher Organization puts on a
Spell-A-Thon to raise funds for the PTO.

The funds raised are used to pay for field trips and extra tools for the classroom for the Preschool all the way to the High School.

November 2nd, each grade went home with a list of words that they are busily studying for to see which class will come out the winner!  Students will be collecting pledges the week of November 2nd  through the 12th  and you can give a flat pledge or make it more exciting by pledging an amount for each correct word.

The students will be testing the week of November 12th through the 16th.

Be ready to pay up, because our great Louisville Students are out to collect 100% and they do a great job SPELLING their way to the top every year.

Donations need to be in by November 26th and donít miss the exciting results when the PTO announce prizes and winners at the Christmas Program on December 11th!

If you would like to make a pledge and do not know a LPS student or have additional questions, contact Angie Krejci at 234-4355

From the Editor
Dust in the Wind
Traditions are the things that keep us sane, keep us going..

Small things, Holidays, Festivals, Feasts, First Snowfall.
They leave us with impressions, smells, fond memories, smiles. They mark the calendar and give us stuff to look forward to. We are all done now with Jack-o-Lanterns, and thoughts of roast turkey and gravy begun to fill our heads.
That is our way of life, there is comfort and joy in our traditions.
It is painful when our traditions are disrupted, or taken away.
Leaves us with a hollow feeling.

I remember my first impressions of Nebraska were right after the 1995 Nebraska Football season, and I was stunned by the universal happiness and pride that flowed everywhere. I had never experienced anything like that! Must be something in the water. It was pervasive, and infectious  and thrilling, and just plain fun! I felt like I had wandered in to a family picnic, and won the door prize! Everybody from the bank President to the bank Janitor was wearing the
RED and smiling and thinking about the Game on Sat Morning, it was a great feeling!

As my new business had me dealing with people all over the country. It was not uncommon to hear;
"Wow, Nebraska! You guys have a Hell of a Football Team!" I'd say, " You Betcha!!" (like I had anything to do with it) It was a perk, a gift, it was mine to enjoy each fall.

Well, all good things finally come to an end I guess, and the end began with a program to entice the best, and fastest, players with a "quickest route to the NFL" pitch. Turns out what you get are talented players that don't have their heart full of pride in Nebraska and our 100+ year traditions. The focus is on getting past this Fly Over State and on to the NFL goodies. And by the way, don't risk get injured doing stupid things like blocking and tackling. Couple that with leadership that had to look up Nebraska on the map to get here, and you have a recipe for disappointment and heart break. The kids, the fans, the state. I can't imagine the disappointment of the folks here that have spent 60 years or more supporting, and cheering this program, it is just a new level of shame, and bitter taste.

It was Good old Ken at Jeff's market that put this all in perspective for me after the Kansas game. "Hey, we did this to ourselves! We were hoping for a quick fix.." .. Rats..
A quick fix is not the Nebraska way. Good things come from hard work, and patience, and more work.

Obscure Reference Warning!!!
Hey, all the Who's down in Whosville found out the hard way, that the goodness, and the great feelings of Community and Celebration are ultimately up to us, they can't be stolen by West Coast Grinches and at the end of the Day, that Big Red Attitude , and Pride is still in here! ( thumping chest cavity ) and the rest is just tinsel, that Big Red feeling is up to us and it will be there bowl game, or not.

So, lets Wear the Red on Saturday (just like the Who's in Whosville) and keep the Faith!
